Tinley Park High plans first prom dress sale

Girls in their mid- to late-teens can pick up bargains on floor length prom dresses this weekend at Tinley Park High School's Prom Boutique. Scheduled for 4 to 8 p. meters. Weekend and 9 a. meters. to 2 p. meters. Wednesday, the case offers dozens of dresses that originally sold for $400-$500, said Katie Udstuen, a media contact at the school.

The consignment sale : the school's first : is an attempt to take some of the prickle out of purchasing a nice dress for the prom, she said, adding that as the other of two young girls, she's had new-dress sticker shock.. "I didn't spend a whole lot for my bridal dress, inches Udstuen said, noting some of the 100 or so gowns originally sold for $600. Although the sale is geared toward the prom near the end of the school year, anyone looking for a formal gown is welcome, she said, adding the case also includes regular dresses. The master sets prices in the Prom Boutique but, Udstuen said, "We try to help. We ask, 'What would you be ready pay if you came here? '" In the interests of making a sale, most sellers favor to sharply reduce prices.

A quick try the school library office where the dresses were hanging revealed price tags in the $150 to $200 range. Some dresses will set you back only $15, Udstuen said. The master gets 75 percent of the sale price, with the remaining 30 percent split among the school's soccer team, volleyball team and library. Udstuen acknowledged that some dresses may be familiar from the 2012 prom. "A couple dresses are very unique, inches she said.

But she stressed most would be making a first-time appearance at the school's big event. It is likely that recognition is further reduced by the fact that sellers include persons who aren't Tinley Park Kids, such as "a girl who's a student at Lewis University. inches Udstuen said the idea for the event got their start in Lincoln-Way North High school, whose Music Boosters published a Prom Resale in September 2012. More than 300 prom and party dresses were donated or consigned for resale during that one-day event. The Prom Boutique's first year ties in with the school's annual fashion show commenced in 2011. This year's show is determined for 6 p. meters. Weekend, and features students modeling fashions from local stores.
